Welcome to the website of the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory, located in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria. Our research focuses on complex flows using global quantitative imaging techniques. The common goal of all our research programs is to obtain a thorough understanding of these fascinating flows while attemting to reveal new physical phenomena that will have a major impact both in terms of applied technology and fundamental knowledge. Applications include flow-induced noise and vibrations, aerodynamics, microchannel flows, and biomedical devices.
These research activities attract me personally because I enjoy projects that bridge the gap between theory and application. These callenging projects consist of sets of mutually-related problems requiring knowledge of physics, mathematics, engineering, and computer science. They involve both study of theoretical principles and design of practical solutions. My research in the field of experimental fluid mechanics provides me with the opportunities to find a balance between theory and practice.
